the people who only live in our dreams

sometimes in my dreams, i am interacting with people who i don't know in real life.
i also lucid dream almost every time, so it's kind of funny when the story is playing out and i'm thinking to myself, "who the heck is this?"

seeing people you don't know in real life in your dream is a pretty common phenomenon.
however, they say that the human brain cannot invent new faces, so these people you see must be faces you have seen before in passing.
i'm not sure how true that is, but if it is, it's cool how the subconscious can remember things that i consciously do not.
when i wake up and try to remember my dreams, these faces are replaced with just blurs or white light instead.

anyways, what i really wanted to get into was something a bit more imaginative.
a few days ago, my friend (who lives in korea) and i were talking about how she saw a child on the street who looked just like me.
she said wasn't sure if she was seeing things because she missed me or something haha.
but what's crazy is that right around that time when she saw the child was when i was sleeping, and that night i had a dream that i few to korea abruptly.
when i told her this, she said "imagine if that was really you, but the dream version or something?"
this led us into a discussion about dreams and i told her how in my dream i was with someone who i didn't know in real life.
she told me that she has a recurring dream where she is in love with someone who only exists in her dreams, and in the dreams they spend their time together, but always say a sad goodbye before she wakes up.
she also said that she can't remember his face when she wakes up, just like how the faces are blurred or whited out for me.
i told her that her dream would make for a great story or movie where the plot would be something like, both she and this mysterious man are real people living somewhere in the world, but every night they're connected through their dreams, both never thinking that the other could exist in real life.
kind of gave me Kimi No Na Wa (Your Name.) vibes.
if i was ambitious enough i would actually want to write this out.
i actually used to want to be a writer in high school - just another one of my many interests.

in a way, if the faces we see are supposed to be people we have encountered in real life before, then i guess the people we meet in our dreams actually exist outside of the dream world and have their own lives too.
interesting to think about.
